It is reported that the Welsh government has wasted £1.6m of public money on a failed project. I do not know exactly what went wrong with the scheme in question to prevent it from being a success, but I do know that the Welsh government did not have to spend money on the scheme in the first place.
Pouring money into specific schemes is sometimes referred to as picking winners, but all too often it involves picking losers. One alternative is to abandon the policy of picking winners, and let the money return to the economy in the form of lower taxes. But of course we can't expect communists to like that idea.
